Senior move managers on the Nature Coast
A senior move manager plans and runs the whole move for you, from the first "where do we start?" to the last box unpacked in the new place. If a move feels like too much to handle alone, this is who does it with you.
Last reviewed: August 8, 2026
The short version:
- A senior move manager plans the move, helps you sort and downsize, lays out the new home, hires and oversees the movers, and unpacks and sets you up at the other end.
- Cost runs about $40 to $80 an hour, or roughly $1,500 to $5,000 for a whole move, depending on how much you want handled.
- Look for a member of NASMM (the national association) who is insured and gives you a written estimate and contract.
- Members serve Pasco and Hernando. For Citrus, there's no local member, so use the national directory and ask who covers your town.
Common questions
- What does a senior move manager cost?
- About $40 to $80 an hour, or roughly $1,500 to $5,000 for a whole move, depending on your area and how much you hand off (A Place for Mom, 2024). NASMM members give a written estimate before any work.
- What's the difference between a move manager and a mover?
- A mover transports boxes. A move manager plans the whole move, helps you sort and downsize, oversees the movers, and unpacks and sets up the new home. Many also arrange the sale or donation of what you leave behind.
- Is there a senior move manager in Citrus County?
- Not one based in Citrus in the national directory. Providers in Pasco and Hernando are nearby; search the NASMM directory by ZIP and ask who covers your town.
- How do I make sure a move manager is trustworthy?
- Choose a NASMM member, confirm they carry liability and workers' compensation insurance, ask for a written estimate and contract, call references, and check that staff are background-checked.
What does a senior move manager do?
As much or as little as you want. According to the national association (NASMM), a move manager can:
- Build a plan and timeline for the whole move
- Help you sort, downsize, and decide what to keep
- Draw a floor plan of the new home so you know what fits
- Arrange to sell, donate, or haul what you're not taking
- Hire, schedule, and oversee the movers
- Oversee the packing, then unpack and set up the new place
- Help get the old home ready to sell
Some move managers do the hands-on work themselves. Others manage it and bring in trusted help. Many also help people who want to stay put, by organizing and making a home safer.
What does it cost?
Most charge by the hour. The national average is about $40 to $80 an hour, and a full move usually runs $1,500 to $5,000, depending on your area and how much you hand off (source: A Place for Mom, 2024). Some offer a package price for the whole job instead of an hourly rate.
How do you choose a good one?
NASMM suggests you ask each candidate these questions:
- How long have you done move management, and are you a NASMM member?
- Do you hold NASMM's A+ Accreditation or SMM-C certification?
- Are you fully insured for liability and workers' compensation?
- How do you charge, and will you put the fee in writing?
- Will you provide a written contract and references I can call?
Also ask whether the staff who come into the home are background-checked and bonded.
How is this different from a mover or an estate sale company?
A moving company just transports your boxes. A senior move manager plans the whole transition, does the hands-on downsizing with you, handles the emotional side, and oversees the move from start to finish (and hires the movers for the hauling). An estate sale company only sells the contents; a move manager will arrange that sale, or a donation or clear-out, as one part of the bigger job. For those pieces on their own, see our estate sales guide and clearing out a home guide.
