How we compare and choose what to list

When we name a program, a provider, or a cost, here's how we got there, and what a listing does and doesn't mean.

What we include, and why

How we handle costs

Prices for care, devices, and services change constantly and vary by home, plan, and provider. We give ranges from cited sources with a date, not made-up numbers, and we tell you to confirm the current price before you buy. When we can't verify a figure, we say so rather than guess.

A listing is not an endorsement

When we list local providers, it's for your convenience, not an endorsement, and the order they appear in is not a ranking. We always tell you to check a provider yourself: get it in writing, verify licenses and insurance, and compare a couple of options. Our guides include checklists for exactly that.

Errors, additions, and removals

We work to keep things accurate, but rules and prices change and mistakes happen. If you spot an error, run a local program or business that should be listed, or want a listing corrected or removed, please tell us, we read every message.

We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with Medicare, Medicaid, the VA, or any program or company we mention. See about us and our editorial policy.
